Undergraduate Programs

The Carl and Melinda Helwig Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering offers three undergraduate degrees:

• Agricultural technology management (ATM)
• Biological systems engineering (BSE)
  
• Environmental engineering (ENVE)
  (jointly with civil engineering and chemical engineering)

These degrees open up a wide range of career opportunities with excellent starting salaries and job placement rates. Many graduates go on to further their education in law, business, medical, veterinary or graduate school.

Many ATM, BSE and ENVE students gain experience by working with faculty on research projects in the field or in the lab part time while they are students and add value with summer internships.

The biological and agricultural engineering department is committed to generating and disseminating knowledge in agricultural and biological systems. Our mission is to advance the knowledge and application of engineering and technology to living systems including plants, animals, microorganisms, agriculture and the environment. Students learn to apply physical and biological principles and technical sciences to living systems in a diverse world of opportunities.

K-State is the only higher education institute in Kansas offering a biological systems engineering, an environmental engineering and an agricultural technology management degree. Together, these three programs have one goal of bringing solutions to life. We seek to provide a safe, sustainable food and fiber supply for the world, use technology to protect the environment and conserve resources, and utilize biological base products to develop new global opportunities.
